I think that both sides of the open source AI conversation have merit, but I feel like opensource is the better on long term.

I use stable diffusion regularly, and the amount of specialised image generation models made for very specific kinds of images is only possible because it is open source.

Also, there are a number of companies now that don't have the resources to train their own foundation model but exist because of the open source nature of LLama and Stable Diffusion. Other wise, the "big tech" companies would've become the gatekeepers of this transformational technology.
